Blepharoplasty

Revitalize Your Eyes and Refresh Your Expression

Your eyes are one of the most expressive features of your face, often the first thing people notice and the key to non-verbal communication. Over time, the delicate skin around your eyes may show signs of aging, with excess skin, puffiness, and sagging leading to a tired and aged appearance. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, offers a way to rejuvenate the eyes by addressing these concerns, bringing a naturally refreshed look that brightens your entire face.

Dr. Yau is dedicated to providing expert care that helps patients look and feel their best. During blepharoplasty, she can tighten the eyelid muscles, reposition tissues, and remove excess skin and fat to restore a youthful and well-rested appearance. The procedure can be tailored to either the upper or lower eyelids, or both, depending on your specific needs.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Blepharoplasty?

Ideal candidates for blepharoplasty are individuals in good overall health with healthy facial tissues and muscles who are seeking to reduce signs of aging around their eyes. If you don’t smoke and don’t have serious eye conditions like glaucoma, retinal detachment, or underlying health conditions such as thyroid disorders or cardiovascular issues, you may be a suitable candidate for this transformative procedure.

The Blepharoplasty
Procedure

Typically performed as an outpatient procedure, upper eyelid blepharoplasty requires only local anesthesia. For more complex cases involving both upper and lower eyelid surgery, general anesthesia may be recommended. Depending on the extent of your procedure, surgery can take from 45 minutes to 3 hours.

For upper eyelid surgery, Dr. Yau carefully places the incision along the natural lid crease, ensuring any scars are inconspicuous. For lower eyelid surgery, incisions are usually made just below the lash line or inside the eyelid to minimize visible scarring. Fat deposits are then repositioned or removed to smooth puffiness, and the skin is carefully tightened. The result is a youthful, long-lasting rejuvenation.

Recovery From

Blepharoplasty

Recovery from blepharoplasty is generally smooth and manageable. For the first few days after surgery, patients are encouraged to apply lubricating drops and cold compresses to aid in healing and minimize swelling. Stitches are typically removed within 4 to 5 days, and most side effects such as swelling subside within 2 to 3 weeks. Many patients find that recovery is easier than expected, with a refreshed and youthful appearance emerging quickly after the procedure.
