Gynecomastia

Regain Confidence with a More Masculine Chest Contour

If you're a man living with overdeveloped male breasts, known as gynecomastia, you are not alone. Gynecomastia affects 40 to 60 percent of men and can be caused by a variety of factors including hormonal imbalances, obesity, certain medications, or genetics. This condition can affect one or both breasts and often leads to self-consciousness and discomfort. Dr. Yau understands the impact this can have on your confidence and well-being, and she is here to help you achieve a flatter, more masculine chest contour through personalized care.

Gynecomastia surgery targets the excess glandular or fatty tissue that contributes to the appearance of male breasts, restoring a more defined and athletic chest shape. Dr. Yau provides a supportive environment where patients can discuss their concerns openly and receive expert recommendations for achieving the best possible outcomes.

Is Gynecomastia Surgery Right For You?

Candidates for gynecomastia surgery are men whose breast development is complete, are in good overall health, and are seeking to improve their chest contour. If you’re ready to reclaim your confidence and feel comfortable in your body again, this procedure may be the right option for you.

Male Breast Reduction

Procedure

Gynecomastia surgery is typically performed on an outpatient basis, allowing you to return home the same day. Depending on the composition of your breast tissue, Dr. Yau will use one of the following techniques:

  • Liposuction: If your gynecomastia is primarily caused by fatty tissue, Dr. Yau will use liposuction to gently remove excess fat through small incisions near the nipples or under the arms. This technique leaves minimal scarring and provides a smoother chest contour.

  • Excisional Surgery: For patients with a significant amount of glandular tissue or excess skin, Dr. Yau will perform excisional surgery. Small incisions are made along the bottom edge of the areola, allowing for the removal of glandular tissue and the repositioning of the nipple if necessary. This technique ensures a more natural chest appearance.

The surgery typically takes 1 to 2 hours, and Dr. Yau's meticulous attention to detail ensures minimal scarring and optimal results. Once the excess tissue is removed, sutures are used to close the incisions, and the area is bandaged to support healing.

Recovery From

Male Breast Reduction Surgery

After gynecomastia surgery, you may experience some bruising, swelling, and mild discomfort. These effects typically subside after a few days and can be managed with prescribed pain medication. A compression garment will be worn for 4 to 6 weeks to help reduce swelling and promote a smooth chest contour. While strenuous activities should be avoided during this time, most patients can return to work and normal daily activities within 1 to 2 weeks. The results are typically long-lasting, providing men with a more masculine appearance and improved confidence.
