Tummy Tuck
Achieve a Flatter, More Sculpted Abdomen
Sometimes, no matter how much effort you put into exercise and dieting, excess skin and fat can persist around the abdomen. This is especially common after weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or simply as a result of aging. Dr. Yau offers abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, to help patients achieve a firmer, smoother, and more sculpted abdomen. This procedure not only removes excess skin and fat but also tightens weakened or separated abdominal muscles, helping you regain a more youthful silhouette.
Dr. Yau carefully personalizes each tummy tuck to suit your unique body goals, whether you're looking to address loose skin, restore muscle integrity, or refine your waistline. Ideal candidates for abdominoplasty are those who are in good physical condition but struggle with sagging skin or abdominal bulging that cannot be improved through diet and exercise alone. If you're ready to regain confidence in your appearance, this procedure could be the solution.
The Abdominoplasty
Procedure
The tummy tuck procedure takes approximately 3 to 5 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Yau begins by making two discreet incisions: one from hipbone to hipbone just above the pubic area and another around the navel. The abdominal muscles are then repaired by pulling them together and suturing them in place, creating a firmer and flatter abdominal contour. The skin is gently pulled downward over the tightened muscles, and any excess is removed. Dr. Yau repositions the navel for a natural appearance before closing the incisions with sutures. To ensure proper healing, two drains are placed under the skin, and patients are fitted with a supportive abdominal binder garment.
Recovery After
Abdominoplasty
After your tummy tuck, you may be discharged on the same day, although in some cases, an overnight stay may be recommended for closer monitoring. Patients can typically return to regular activities within 2 weeks, but it is important to avoid exercise and strenuous activities for approximately 6 weeks to allow for proper healing. Dr. Yau will provide you with detailed post-operative care instructions to ensure your recovery progresses smoothly. While the procedure does result in a scar running low across the abdomen from hip to hip, it is strategically placed so that it remains easily concealed under most swimwear and underwear.
Maintaining your weight through a balanced diet and regular exercise will help to prolong the results of your tummy tuck, allowing you to enjoy your rejuvenated figure for years to come.
